Writer Woes: naming characters

Hey all! Long time, no talk. Welcome to 2018, I guess. Things have been going pretty well in my neck of the woods – AT LEAST THEY WERE UNTIL MY PHONE CROAKED. But that’s beside the point.

I’ve been getting a lot of writing done in both my professional projects and my fanwork ones. I’m procrastinating a little on some things, which I apologize for. I’m in the process of updating everything on this blog and my main webpage – photobucket decided that they don’t host images for free which was the whole point of them. I’ve been using photobucket for well over a decade and now I have to find something else. Thankfully, WordPress has space built in. So pardon the ugliness, I’m working on it.

(I’ll also be including the 10 facts about me and some goals at the end of this since that’s a tradition for the first post of a new year)

Anyway, there are a lot of things that plague writers. Writers block, not enough time in the day, characters not cooperating, too many ideas, not enough ideas; the list goes on and on. But one of the ones that drives me up a wall is naming characters.

I hate it.

I hate naming characters.

And I freely admit that.

Organization in Writing

Hey all! I’m getting back into the swing of things. This month has not been the best in terms of writing. Maybe I bit off more than I could chew, or maybe I was just a little burned out. Not sure. I’m starting to get back into it though.

Exciting news – I’m going to be at Odyssey Con this weekend! And for the first time ever, I’m going as a panelist. I’m usually pretty shy and reserved when it comes to talking in front of people, but maybe a geeky topic will make me less anxious. I’ll be out there on Saturday and Sunday. I’ll be on a Harry Potter panel, two writing panels, and I’m running an Overwatch panel all by my lonesome!

Also! Patreon suggestions for the month of April close on the 26th! The post with all the information can be found: HERE! Check things out~

Anyway, the topic of today’s post is organization in writing. It’s one that I’ve been meaning to talk about but never really felt qualified to do so. I’m not really good at the whole organization thing, at least in general. There are a series of tweets about me forgetting character details or losing information on them. I’m totally a professional. But here goes!

That Elusive Writing Zone

car-44383_1280Hey all! I’ve been meaning to get a post up for a few days now, but I’ve been trying to get back into the swing of everything. The holidays wore me down more than I had anticipated, but it feels like I’m getting back into a rhythm now and I’m really glad for that. I don’t like when I’m struggling with writing.

There’s about a week left for January’s suggestions/voting over on my Patreon. While you have to be a Patron to put in suggestions for the fanfiction, anyone can leave suggestions for writing posts! So check it out!

This post came about when a friend and I were discussing the differences between how the two of us function as writers. We’re very different in our methods of keeping focus. She requires fullscreen and music that has little to no understandable lyrics. I’ll get into my methods in a bit.

But it got me to thinking – how does one get into that ‘writing zone’? So keep in mind, these are things that have worked for me. Maybe my ideas will help you – maybe my ideas will tell you what not to do. Who knows. But here they are.
